WA Screen Academy – Trapped in Broome:
[ 2008-07-10 16:05:04 ]
Twenty-one of the twenty-six episodes of the children’s series ‘Trapped’ will be directed by recent graduates of the WA Screen Academy. Veteran producer Bruce Best of Northway Productions is making the series in Broome for the 7 Network. He has chosen to go with new blood in selecting directors Ben Young, Sam Barrett, Claire Marshall and Paul Komadina to direct a block of episodes each. In addition to the directors Bruce has also hired one of the Editors, Ivan Davidov, 1st AD, Dayne Blundell-Camden and Camera and Editing Assistant, Ben Pascoe to work on the production. This came about as a result of the relationship between Bruce and Andrew Lewis, Associate Director of the WA Screen Academy, who had previously directed episodes of Ocean Star (also shot in Broome) which Bruce produced.
The Script Producer of the series is Tracey Defty-Rashid who is a Masters Graduate of the Scriptwriting program at ECU. Lucinda Marty and Ben Young, both graduates of the Screen Academy have written episodes for the series. Ceiwen Langley started off doing Professional Placement with the Script Department and was later hired as the Script Editing Assistant. Other ECU graduates working on the production include Kathryn Dart (Script Supervisor/Continuity) and WAAPA graduates Sandy Mitchell and Jonelle Holman who are handling Wardrobe.
Director of the WA Screen Academy, John Rapsey, says, “This is a terrific affirmation of our philosophy of getting students industry-ready across a range of formats and genres for both small and large screen. We are extremely proud of these talented graduates who have gained a foothold in broadcast television so early in their careers.”
